Southern Missouri Immigration Alliance (SMIA) is a grassroots coalition dedicated to advancing immigrant justice across Missouri. Founded in early 2025 by Springfield residents who could no longer stand by and watch members of their community face fear, isolation, and injustice, SMIA was born out of a shared commitment to build a safer and more equitable state for all.
Our work begins with action — raising public awareness, dismantling harmful policies, and offering direct support to immigrant communities across southern Missouri. Our first campaign focuses on ending the ICE contract at the Greene County Jail through community organizing and advocacy. But our mission extends far beyond one issue.
SMIA is working to strengthen rapid response networks, expand access to legal and language resources, and nurture leadership within immigrant communities. Together, we’re laying the groundwork for long-term policy reform that promotes dignity, safety, and belonging for every immigrant in Missouri.
We are proud to collaborate with a growing network of allied organizations and community partners who share our vision of justice and solidarity. Whether you’re looking for support, or seeking a way to stand alongside your immigrant neighbors, you are part of this movement.
Join us — together, we can build a Missouri where every person feels safe, valued, and at home.
